Fact-checking

Every guide is checked as a separate step before it goes live: each claim against its source, each quote word for word, and each safety warning with its conditions intact.

Who checks

Checking is a separate pass, never part of the drafting.

Aman Singh writes and reviews every guide. He writes it first, then reviews it in a separate pass before it’s published, checking every fact against its source.

What gets checked

Every claim a reader could act on.

  • Lengths, guard numbers and specs, against the maker's manual or official US page, in both inches and millimeters.
  • Health and skin advice, against medical and dermatology sources, keeping every condition: how long to wait, what size or sign means see a doctor.
  • Quotes, word for word, against a saved copy of the page they come from.
  • Steps in a how-to, so they match the maker's instructions for that tool.
  • Comparisons, so both sides are described from the same kind of source or the same test.
  • Dates, so each source's publish or update date is recorded, and undated pages are marked as undated.

Sources we rely on, in order

Named, traceable, and right for the claim.

  1. The manufacturer's or provider's own documentation. For store policies, the store's own written policy.
  2. Our own testing and hands-on checks.
  3. Reputable independent sources, such as government agencies, standards bodies and established publications.
  4. Forums and reader reports. We use these only as leads and confirm them before we rely on them.

How we check a guide

A claim its source doesn't support never goes live.

    Research.

    We start from the sources above, in that order.

    Test or verify.

    We try the steps ourselves or check them against the source.

  3. 3

    Write.

    Aman Singh writes the guide and lists the sources used.

  4. 4

    Check every fact.

    Every claim, number, step, price and link is checked against its source. Steps that carry a safety risk get an extra check.

  5. 5

    Review.

    Aman Singh reviews the guide in a separate pass before it's published.

  6. 6

    Publish and date.

    We publish the guide with its "Last updated" date and add it to our review schedule.

After a guide goes live

Checking doesn't stop at publication.

  • Reader reports sent through the contact page are read by Aman and checked against the same source standards.
  • We review every guide at least once every 12 months. If something changes in between, such as a product update, a recall, a price or policy change, or a reader report, we check the guide within 14 business days.
  • We acknowledge every report within 48 hours and fix confirmed errors within 7 business days. Read our Corrections Policy.

Checking makes a guide accurate to its sources; it doesn’t replace a doctor’s advice for your own skin.
